Celebrities have shared their thoughts on the indefinite suspension of social media platform, Twitter, by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

On Friday, minister of information, Lai Mohammed, announced in a statement on Twitter, the indefinite ban of the microblogging platform in the West African country.

Nigerian celebrities have condemned the Federal government for making such decision. Multiple award-winning musician, Banky W, said; “They can’t stop kidnapping, armed robbery and terrorism… the country is as unsafe as ever…  yet they can seize passports and block bank accounts of peaceful protesters. They ban cryptocurrency. They ban Twitter. Completely out of touch with the plight of young people.”

SamKlef, a respected music producer, responded, saying; “Ghen ghen! The most stupid president in history who failed in 1985 after planning a coup. Came back through the help of desperate tinubu to destroy Nigeria. This same tweeter wey apc use call out Jonathan and use campaign and call results.  Welcome to the zoogerian.”

Debo Macaroni, a social media comedian, stated that “General Buhari and APC used this same Twitter to criticize past administrations and campaign for elections.. Now that the citizens are holding them accountable with the same platform, heat is catching them. They want to take away the people’s freedom to speak. Dictatorship 101.”
