Today, December 26,2021, is also boxing day. Tracing the history of boxing day, one theory of today’s holiday says it was traditionally a day off for servants and a day when they would receive special presents from their masters. The presents traditionally given to the poor and servants was called a ‘Christmas box’, hence the name boxing day.

On this beautiful day that succeeds Christmas day, some actors and actresses in the Nigeria movie industry were born. 

1. Sola Sobowale

Sola Sobowale is a Nigerian film actress, screenwriter, director and producer. She was born December 26, 1963. Sola Sobowale had her big break in 2001, in the premiere of Nigeria’s popular television drama series Super Story: Oh Father, Oh Daughter.

Sola Sobowale is married and has four children. She clocks 58 today.

In 2019, Sola Sobowale received the African movie academy awards (AMAA) for ‘best actress in a leading role’, for her role in the 2018 Nigerian film titled king of boys.

Sobowale featured in dangerous twins, a 2004 Nigerian drama film produced by Tade Ogidan, written and directed by Niji Akanni.

2. Biodun Sofuyi Okeowo

Biodun Okeowo popularly known as Omo Butty who clocked 42 today, was born on December 26th, 1979, in Fadeyi, Lagos State. She hails from Remo, in Ogun State. She grew up in a polygamous family and is the youngest of the five children from her mother’s side. She is the only daughter of her mother.

Her father, Mr. Okeowo, was an actor who acted with popular actors such as Jide Kosoko. He was part of the ‘awarara theatre group’. She seems to have followed in her father’s footsteps.

Even though she is a trained journalist, Biodun has a passion for acting. However, acting was an after-thought, having failed to secure employment after graduating.

She started her acting career in 2006. She got her first role in eniyemi but came to limelight with the movie Tolani osinrin.

Besides acting, the Yoruba actress is a businesswoman. She owns a cosmetic and spa brand called Victoria beauty.

As a result of her talent and hard work, the Yoruba actress has won awards in her career. In 2010, at the ‘global excellency awards’, she won the upcoming movie personality of the year.

The actress had a man in her life, but according to her, the man, who is the father of her two children (Ifeoluwa and Ayomide) cannot be called her husband as he never paid her bride price.

Biodun Okeowo and the said husband separated when she found out that he had married someone else. She is currently single. She has occasionally joked that she had her children out of wedlock.
