For the second time in a row, Grammy Awards organisers have postponed the award show because of COVID-19.
2022 Grammys, which was scheduled to host on January 31, has been rescheduled to a date that will be announced soon.
Recording Academy and CBS announced in a joint statement that “After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show.”
“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority,” the press release added.
The companies said further; “Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night® on a future date, which will be announced soon.”
The 2022 Grammy Awards show was initially meant to take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles with Trevor Noah as host.
Last year’s Grammy Awards event was postponed from January to March, also citing the COVID-19 pandemic and a surge in its cases.
