5 Nigerian Entertainers celebrating their birthdays today and how they marked it

Today, January 17,2022; here is a list of 5 celebrities in the entertainment industry who are a year older and how they celebrated (or didn’t) their day.

1. Kolawole Ajeyemi aka Awilo

Kolawole Ajeyemi aka Awilo is a Nollywood actor, filmmaker, founder of Aje Omo Aje School of Performing Arts, located in Abeokuta, Ogun State and CEO of Kolawole Clothings. He was born January 17, 1982.

The actor joined the make-believe industry in 1997 and has featured in many many movies. He says the film Ijogbon which he produced with Tunde Sobayo shot him to limelight.

The actor took to his Instagram page this morning to celebrate his day. He posted stunning pictures and a video where his wife, surprised him by inviting one of his favorite singers, Timi Dakolo to the house to pray and sing for him. He also posted a video with his kids in it, with his daughter praying for him.

Kolawole Ajeyemi is married to popular Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham. The two got married on July 4, 2019, only a month after their son, Ireoluwa Ajeyemi, was born. He also has a teenage daughter named Temitope Ajeyemi from a previous relationship.

2. 9ice

Born Alexander Abolore Adegbola Akande on January 17, 1980. 9ice, the Gongo Aso singer is famous for his constant use of the Yoruba language in his music as well as his proverbial lyrics and unique style of delivery.

9ice is also known as Adigun Alapomeji or Basorun Gaa. Although the talented music icon is yet to make any post on either of his verified Instagram and Twitter accounts, we wish him a fabulous one.
In 1996, 9ice recorded his first demo titled Risi de Alagbaja, but it was not until 2000 that he released his first official solo song Little Money.

In 2008, 9ice released the single Gongo Aso which shot him to limelight. With the song gaining popularity, 9ice was asked to perform at the Nelson Mandela 90th birthday tribute in London, United Kingdom in June 2008. He went on to win the Best Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the MTV African music awards.

Gongo Aso won him four further awards at the 2009 edition of the Hip Hop world awards held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja: ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Artiste of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’ and the ‘Best Rap in Pop Album’ categories.
In 2020, 9ice released another album entitled Tip of The Iceberg: Episode 1 to top his previously released albums. He is the Founder and CEO of his own music record label Alapomeji Ancestral Record. 9ice is married to Osunkanmi Ajala, they got married in 2019.

3. Nengi Adoki

Nengi Elizabeth Adoki is a Nigerian-born, Toronto Actress, Director, Singer and Songwriter. This stunning actress captured many hearts in her role as Lola in the award winning movie series The Mens Club  and The most toasted girl. The ever-smiling has continued to turn heads.

4. Lágbájá

Bisade Ologunde is a Nigerian afrobeat musician, singer-songwriter and percussionist. Widely known as Lágbájá for his signature use of mask which covers his identity. He believes in social reform through music. He was born January 17,1960.

Ologunde adopted the name Lágbájá (meaning “Jane Doe” or “John Doe”- A person whose name, identity is intentionally concealed in Yoruba) as he embarked on his career in the early 90s. His name was reflected in his choice of stage attire – a slitted textile and rubber mask adopted so that the artist represented the ‘common man’ in keeping with the carnival tradition of his Yorùbá tribe.

5. Bisi Alimi

Bisi Alimi is a Nigerian gay rights activist, public speaker, blog writer and HIV/LGBT advocate who gained international attention when he became the first Nigerian to come out on television. He got married to Anthony Davis in 2016.
