African Lullabies Part 2, the second piece in the children’s music series African Lullabies, is part of Platoon’s celebration of Africa Month.
African Lullabies Part 2 takes a pan-African approach, featuring outstanding talent from across the continent, including Asa, Ayra Starr, Karun, Teni, Simi, WurlD, Olayinka Ehi, Tresor, Manana, Aymos, and Ntsika.
Where the first part, African Lullabies Part 1, focused on original compositions by South African singers and songwriters and was sung in a variety of languages, African Lullabies Part 2 broadens the scope of children’s music for newborns on the continent and in the diaspora.
The majority of the songs are original compositions by the artists, inspired by their experiences as parents and African folklore, although others are re-recordings of previously published material.
Speaking about making her first children’s song, Olayinka Ehi pointed out the importance of African lullabies.
“It’s important for African Lullabies to be made and it’s great that we’re doing this for younger children who will be able to play and sing this music for their children. We’re starting something that can be passed down for generations to come. It’s special for children to hear their language, the sounds that they’re used to – it’s a special moment for them and something that they will always remember and pass down to their children.”
Platoon has been curating children’s music since July of last year, after recognizing the critical need for a rich and diverse offering for children that catered to all children regardless of the language they speak or the country they live in. They’ve partnered with musicians and children’s content creators from all over the world and in a variety of languages to become one of the world’s leading children’s music curators.
