2023 election: Why I dropped a part of my name – Tonto Dikeh [VIDEO]

Popular Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has stirred reactions online after a recent interview when she talked about dropping a part of her name because of her political ambition.

WITHIN NIGERIA earlier reported that the movie star was announced as the running mate for African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s governorship candidate, Tonte Ibraye, ahead of 2023 election in Rivers State.

The film star hit the ground running as she recently joined party officials for her first official party duty.

Dikeh attended a press conference where she gave an acceptance speech and stressed the need for Nigerians to get their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC).

Just recently, During an interview with Channels TV, Tonto addressed a lot of misconception about the use of her name ‘King’ and what she thinks of her role as a  deputy Governorship candidate.

Tonto disclosed that she dropped her name ‘King’ to avoid a future conflict with traditional rulers.

She said;

“I don’t call myself ‘king’, My name is King Tonto, it is a name not a title. It’s a name gotten from my son? That’s something I’ve never really gotten to explain to a lot of people but I think now I have to because I had to take it out from my campaign initiative because I did not want to traditional rulers to think me ahead of them.

My ‘king’ comes a result of my name, as a name gotten from my son. It’s not a title in any way or form.”

On being a woman of controversy, the actress revealed that she is ready for whatever running for the post of a deputy governor throws at her.
