Throwback video of Gospel Singer Mercy Chinwo performing Psquare’s ‘Chop My Money’ sparks reaction

A throwback video of the popular gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo Blessed performing one of Psquare’s hit tracks, ‘Chop My Money‘ on stage has gotten tongues wagging online.

The video recently surfaced on the video-sharing app, TikTok and has left social media users in awe to know that Mercy Chinwo once did a thunderous performance of a secular song. The video was from the popular music exhibition show, Nigerian Idol, Mercy Chinwo was a participant in 2012 and outdid herself to impress the judges.

In the video, the ‘Obinasom’ hitmaker gave an energetic and spirited performance that got people hailing and applauding her efforts. She sang the song word for word and won the hearts of the judges.

However, this is not the only song she performed on the Nigerian Idol stage. Another video of her performing Fela’s viral track, ‘Zombie’ also trended a few days back.

In the video, Mercy Chinwo was brought on stage in a box and when it was opened, she came out and began her exhibition. As usual, the judges were wowed by the performance as they clapped and smiled. One of the judges was Femi Kuti, Fela’s eldest son who was undoubtedly pleased to see his father’s song being sung perfectly well.

Mercy Chinwo was only 20 years old at that time which goes a long way to prove that she has been in the music industry for a very long time, steadily pushing until she encountered a breakthrough in music.
