Wizkid was misunderstood on his statement about Afrobeats – Joeboy

Joeboy believes Wizkid's recent comment on afrobeats was misinterpreted

Nigerian fast rising singer Joeboy weighed in on the controversial statement made by fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid regarding the genre.

Wizkid had garnered criticism on social media for claiming that he is not an Afrobeats singer.

He added that he decided to stop identifying as an Afrobeats musician since he creates “all sorts of music.”

In the most recent episode of the Big Friday Day Show with Tacha on Cool FM, Lagos, Joeboy defended him, argued that Wizkid was misinterpreted, emphasizing that the singer was not leaving Afrobeats.

He highlighted that singers shouldn’t be boxed into a single genre of music.

He said:

Wizkid’s statement is being misunderstood, he is not running away from Afrobeats. All we are saying is our identity is Afrobeats but please don’t box us because we can make other genres of music too.”

In another story, Joeboy reacts as Blaqbonez claims only 4 artistes are better than him.

The ‘Best Rapper In Africa’ crooner made the bold claim on his X, formerly Twitter page, adding that it is only the big 3 or 4 artistes in Nigeria that can surpass him.

Blaqbonez stated this in response to a critic that dissed him for claiming that the two songs he released this year are better than all Afrobeats songs released. Blaqbonez wrote:

I’ve only added 2 songs on my rotation this year, and it’s been 3 months, most releases have been ass, I don’t even bother to play the top 100 again, cos that one is designed by farmers.”

In reaction, the critic said; “He doesn’t have one song that would give him credibility for this stupiid talk btw.”

However, Blaqbonez argued that apart from the top 4 – Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Olamide, no other artiste can be said to have a better catalogue.

The rapper said;

“Asides the big 3 or 4 or whatever number u guys currently recognize, NOBODY, I repeat NOBODY has a better catalogue than me, but if believe the foolishness that you just typed I can’t help you.”

His claim didn’t sit down well with his colleague, Joeboy, who quoted his tweet with a meme of late pop star Michael Jackson telling an armed man to “calm down.”

Feeling insulted by the post, Blaqbonez reposted an old tweet of Burna Boy shading Reekado Banks, insinuating that he is not “a worthy challenger” for him.
