Legendary singer Onyeka Onwenu is dead


Tragedy struck with a gut-wrenching force on Tuesday night as Nigeria’s legendary singer and songwriter, Onyeka Onwenu, met her untimely end in a shocking and heartbreaking manner.

The iconic ‘Elegant Stallion,’ beloved by millions, was performing at an exclusive birthday party in Lagos when disaster struck.

She reportedly collapsed mid-performance at the private function, sending shockwaves through the attendees.

Despite the frantic efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The devastating news, confirmed by sources close to her family, has left a nation in mourning and a gaping void in the music world.

A source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu had just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli of Emzor Pharmaceuticals this night, and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital but couldn’t make it.”

Onyeka Onwenu, born on May 31, 1952, was not just a singer but a multifaceted powerhouse whose career spanned over four remarkable decades.

She dazzled as a renowned singer and songwriter, actress, journalist, and politician, making her mark across various spheres of life.
