Nigerian Billionaire Folorunsho Alakija has reportedly gone blind


Folorunsho Alakija, the founder and Executive Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil, has reportedly lost her sight, with medical sources involved in her care confirming the development.

The 73-year-old Nigerian billionaire’s health challenges are said to have begun after a near air mishap that deeply unsettled her.

According to sources who spoke to SaharaReporters, Alakija and her husband, Modupe Alakija, Chairman of Famfa Oil, were on the same flight when the unsettling incident occurred, caused a sudden spike in her blood pressure.

It was reported that the experience affected her vision. In response, Alakija is said to have purchased a new jet to avoid traveling on the same flight as her husband. She also reportedly opened a church, sought solace through spirituality.

However, despite these measures, her vision reportedly continued to deteriorate until she ultimately lost her sight.

One of the sources, according to SaharaReporters said;

“She had a near air mishap with her husband on board and her blood pressure reportedly shot up affecting her eyes

“She has been having eyesight issues but instead of treating the illness, she chose to start a church to help her.Now she can’t see.”

Folorunsho Alakija began hosting a small fellowship in her home around 2004, which eventually evolved into the Rose of Sharon Glorious Ministry International. On her 69th birthday, she was ordained as an Apostle, marking a significant spiritual milestone.

Forbes estimated her net worth at $1 billion as of 2020. In 2015, she was ranked as the 87th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes and stood out as one of only two African women on the magazine’s list of the richest people in Africa.

Among the aircraft associated with Alakija is a Bombardier Global Express XRS (model BD-700-1A10) with serial number 9416, registered to Wings of Grace Limited on November 25, 2011. The jet bears the tail number VP-CEO.

She also owns a Bombardier Global Express 6000, a private jet known for its impressive long-range capabilities and luxurious features. The aircraft offers a range of up to 6,000 nautical miles and a cruising speed of Mach 0.89.
