Actress and proud mum, Iyabo Ojo, has revealed that she initially didn’t want a baby shower for her daughter, Priscilla Ojo Mkambala, but changed her mind for reasons rooted in faith, love, and divine gratitude.
Speaking emotionally during Priscilla’s baby shower held on Sunday, Iyabo shared that her first instinct was to avoid yet another grand celebration, especially after the extravagant wedding festivities that had stretched since February.
According to her, the idea of a baby shower felt like “too much,” and she was also wary of drawing more attention from social media critics.
But fellow actress and close friend, Lola Alao, shifted her perspective. Iyabo Ojo opened up:
“I remember when Aunty Lola told me we would do a baby shower for her. I said okay, we’ve been doing so much for her. Since February, the wedding was so long. But Aunty Lola is that special Aunty I can never say no to.”
Despite her initial hesitation, Iyabo said she ultimately embraced the idea because she believes that the joy of childbirth, especially one rooted in love and answered prayers should never be hidden. She said to her daughter with heartfelt conviction:
“This pregnancy is God’s blessing, and God’s blessing cannot be hidden. Priscy, live your life without fear because God is with you.”
Iyabo didn’t stop there. In a powerful, prayerful tone, she addressed critics and trolls who have had much to say since Priscilla’s surprise baby news broke online. She continued:
“Whoever wishes evil for another person’s child will be the one to experience it. For every justice I have fought, as long as I stand on that ground, I fought it because I know I had to do it for that man, woman, or child. Let them gather for evil. With God, they shall scatter.”
She concluded with a bold declaration that she has never sought personal gain from her activism and advocacy, especially around sensitive cases involving abuse and loss. “It is only if I have ever collected a dime or I have a different interest… all the evil gatherings over me shall scatter.”
