He got his PhD at 86. I told him, I said, \u2018Daddy, I came from school to tell you something.\u2019 He said, \u2018Okay, have you been rusticated?\u2019 I said, \u2018No. I\u2019ve decided that I don\u2019t want to read law. I want to do comedy.\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cHe asked, \u2018Comedy like what?\u2019 I said, \u2018Like cracking jokes.\u2019 He laughed and asked my younger brother to call my uncle who lived close by. When my uncle came, he asked what the matter was and I said I don\u2019t want to read law again that I want to do comedy. He said that means I\u2019ve found another father, stressing that I can\u2019t be part of the family and won\u2019t read law. He said all the money my dad spent on me was wasted. He told my dad to handle the situation and left.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI knew I couldn\u2019t sleep in that house because my dad would beat me. So as my uncle was going out, I followed him to lock the burglary and I didn\u2019t go back in. And my dad and I didn\u2019t talk from 1988 \u2013 1998. Ten years. I tried to reach out to him. I went one time to talk to him but he didn\u2019t want to see me.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cThis was the thing.
