{"id":166470,"date":"2024-04-04T13:53:35","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T13:53:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/?p=166470"},"modified":"2024-04-04T13:53:35","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T13:53:35","slug":"court-summons-five-persons-as-mercy-chinwo-husband-take-legal-action-over-sons-paternity-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2024\/04\/04\/court-summons-five-persons-as-mercy-chinwo-husband-take-legal-action-over-sons-paternity-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"Court summons five persons as Mercy Chinwo, husband take legal action over son\u2019s paternity claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong>A court has issued criminal summons on 5 persons for defaming Mercy Chinwo.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, the husband of Minister Mercy Chinwo filed Direct Criminal Complaint against the individuals for Criminal Defamation via falsehood, cyber bullying and cyberstalking.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">The five defendants are Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie and they are to appear before the court on the 23rd of April, 2024.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A Magistrate Court in Abuja has summoned five social media users for \u201c<em>criminal defamation<\/em>\u201d of the reputation of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo and her husband Pastor\u00a0Blessed Uzochikwa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the court summons dated April 3, 2024, Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna ordered the five defendants to appear in person before the court on April 23, 2023, to answer the charges against them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The complainants in the matter are Mercy and Blessed while the five defendants are Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The suit stemmed from a paternity claim made by the defendants last week after the gospel singer and her husband posted a picture of their son on Instagram. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After photos of the baby, who was born in 2023, were uploaded on Instagram, the defendants alleged that there was a resemblance between the baby and another gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey, and claimed that he is the father, an allegation that went viral.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a criminal complaint filed by the complainants\u2019 lawyers led by Pelumi Olajengbesi of Abuja-based media firm, Law Corridor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2024\/01\/23\/mercy-chinwo-receives-sleek-mercedes-jeep-as-push-present-from-her-husband-video\/\">Mercy Chinwo and her husband<\/a> said the alleged actions of the defendants amounted to cyber intimidation, injurious falsehood, and cyberstalking targeted at their persons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The complainants said the alleged actions of the defendants are contrary to Sections 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24 (1)(B) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The \u201c<strong><em>individuals criminally injured the reputation and image of the complainants across the globe resulting from their intentional defamatory posts and an act of cyberstalking,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> the lawyers said in a criminal complaint filed before the magistrate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna thereafter directed the five defendants to appear before the court on April 23, 2024, to answer the charges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This comes after Nathaniel Bassey petitioned the police to investigate and persecute the individuals who claimed he fathered Mercy Chinwo\u2019s son.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A court has issued criminal summons on 5 persons for defaming Mercy Chinwo.
