{"id":166946,"date":"2024-04-08T19:15:33","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T19:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/?p=166946"},"modified":"2024-04-08T19:15:33","modified_gmt":"2024-04-08T19:15:33","slug":"halima-abubakar-ordered-by-court-to-pay-n10m-to-apostle-suleman-for-defamation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2024\/04\/08\/halima-abubakar-ordered-by-court-to-pay-n10m-to-apostle-suleman-for-defamation\/","title":{"rendered":"Halima Abubakar ordered by court to pay N10M to Apostle Suleman for defamation"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar to pay Apostle Johnson Suleman N10M as damages.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>According to reports, Halima Abubakar failed to defend herself against the defamatory suit Suleman slammed her.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Halima Abubakar was also barred from publishing any other libelous content against the Omega Fire Ministries International General Overseer.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Nollywood actress, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2023\/12\/15\/halima-abubakar-returns-to-nollywood-after-battle-with-protracted-illness\/\"><strong>Halima Abubakar<\/strong><\/a> has been ordered by a Federal High Court to pay a fine of N10 million for disseminating defamatory statements about Apostle Johnson Suleman, the Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International.<\/p>\n<p>The court&#8217;s decision, issued on Monday, mandates Abubakar to compensate Apostle Suleman for damages resulting from her actions.<\/p>\n<p>According to the court&#8217;s certified true copy of the judgement, Apostle Suleman accused Abubakar of posting derogatory remarks about him on her Instagram account, which were subsequently circulated by various blogs and newspapers.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Enobie Obanor, presiding over the case, highlighted that Abubakar had the opportunity to defend herself but failed to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The judgement emphasizes that the statements shared by Abubakar on her Instagram handle, @halimabubakar, were both false and malicious, damaging the reputation of Apostle Suleman in the eyes of the public.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the court awarded N10,000,000 to Apostle Suleman as aggravated and exemplary damages for libel.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the court issued an injunction prohibiting Abubakar from making any further publications regarding Apostle Suleman.<\/p>\n<p>The judgement partly reads:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe statements published by the defendant against the claimant on her Instagram handle, @halimabubakar, falsely and maliciously written and published to the general public, are defamatory of the person of the claimant.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe sum of N10,000,000 only to the claimant as aggravated and exemplary damages for libel contained in the publication of the defendant against the claimant on her Instagram handle, @Halimabubakar and caused to be published in several blogs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar to pay Apostle Johnson Suleman N10M as damages.
