{"id":174157,"date":"2024-06-05T12:56:14","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T12:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/?p=174157"},"modified":"2024-06-05T12:56:14","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T12:56:14","slug":"naira-abuse-court-adjourns-case-against-cubana-chief-priest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2024\/06\/05\/naira-abuse-court-adjourns-case-against-cubana-chief-priest\/","title":{"rendered":"Naira abuse: Court adjourns case against Cubana Chief Priest"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong>A high court has again adjourned the Naira abuse case against Cubana Chief Priest until a later date.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">The celebrity barman was arraigned by the EFCC over alleged Naira abuse, to which the former plead not guilty.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Cubana Chief Priest was granted a bail of 10 million Naira and at the next court hearing, both parties agreed to settle out of court.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, June 5 further adjourned until June 25 for mention, a case against celebrity bartender Pascal Okechukwu better known as Cubana Chief Priest, for alleged abuse of the Naira.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), arraigned Pascal Okechukwu on April 17, on a three-count charge of allegedly spraying and tampering with the Naira notes during a social event at Eko hotel in Lagos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Cubana Chief Priest had then pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of 10 million Naira.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">At the last adjourned date on May 2, the defence counsel, Mr Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), had informed the court that parties were exploring settlement and had applied that the matter be settled pursuant to the provisions of Section 14(2) of the EFCC Act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Following the position, defence counsel then applied for a withdrawal of the preliminary objection, and since there was no objection from the prosecution, the court granted same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2024\/05\/02\/naira-abuse-efcc-cubana-chief-priest-to-settle-out-of-court\/\"><span class=\"s1\">The court had consequently, adjourned the case until June 5 (today) for report of settlement.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">However, on Wednesday, newsmen gathered that the defence had written a letter seeking an adjournment of the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The case has now been fixed for June 25 for mention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the charge, the defendant was said to have tampered with the funds in the denomination of N500, while dancing at the social event in Eko Hotel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The offence contravenes the provisions of section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act of 2007<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A high court has again adjourned the Naira abuse case against Cubana Chief Priest until a later date.
