You should\u2019ve run during COVID, because that\u2019s when people were dying\u201d<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2024\/01\/29\/block-me-simi-upset-slams-adekunle-gold-for-excluding-her-in-popular-game-with-friends-video\/\">Oyemykke said<\/a>, sparking outrage and laughter in equal measure.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214167\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-214167\" style=\"width: 701px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-214167\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2025\/07\/IMG_8208.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2025\/07\/IMG_8208.jpeg 701w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2025\/07\/IMG_8208-300x187.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 701px) 100vw, 701px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-214167\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">But the comment didn\u2019t sit well with many, including popular actor Sunkanmi Omobolanle, who quickly debunked the claim with a firm response:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cStopet bro \ud83d\ude22 Ijebu no Dey do Abobaku \ud83d\udc94\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The debate exploded across Instagram, with fans, critics, and content creators all chiming in. While some found Oyemykke\u2019s remarks hilarious, others slammed him for joking about a tradition that is not only controversial but allegedly abolished in Ijebuland years ago. See more comments that followed:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">@osundade_ wrote: \u201cAbobaku oni jaapa keh? If na you nko? PrOblem dey but nobody wan kpai go heaven. \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">@djspicey wrote: \u201cAbobaku fe japa him no know hin work before he begin the work &amp; dey steady ball since&#8230; Oh, probably he thought he was gon kpuff before the king or something\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">@flora_flawa wrote: \u201cWhy settle for Abobaku? What if the Oba dies hours after coronation? \ud83d\ude02\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">@adekansi wrote: \u201cThis egbon suppose get sense pass all these na.\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">@reerelisc wrote: \u201cNo be this guy when no dey wash boxers?\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Some users questioned whether the entire Abobaku tradition still applies in this era, especially since Oba Sikiru Adetona was buried according to Islamic rites. Others just saw the whole thing as pure comedy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c<em>This Abobaku culture should be banished.
