This is due to an alleged <\/span><span class=\"s1\">N477 million land fraud<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> that\u2019s unraveling like a blockbuster legal thriller.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The big-money scandal involves a 2023 transaction between Abu Abel and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Doyin Investment Group of Companies<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, who claim they paid <\/span><span class=\"s1\">N447 million<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> for three prime plots on Augustina Orji Street, within the disputed <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Ojomu Chieftaincy Family land<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> in Oke-Arin Village, Eti-Osa, Lagos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">According to a petition filed by the company, the land, Plots 1, 4 and 10 measuring 1,800 square metres, was sold with all the bells and whistles. Documents signed, a deed of assignment completed, and payments made. But there was one massive red flag, the land was allegedly already <\/span><span class=\"s1\">encumbered<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Despite this, Abu Abel reportedly went ahead with the sale. Police sources say he even admitted to being aware of the existing issues on the land. In an effort to make peace, he refunded <\/span><span class=\"s1\">N230 million<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, but then defaulted on the remaining <\/span><span class=\"s1\">N217 million<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The case has now escalated. On January 11, 2024, Abu Abel signed a <\/span><span class=\"s1\">written undertaking<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> to pay the balance and even pledged a <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Lekki property<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> as collateral. But months passed, and no payment came. Instead, the police say Abel <\/span><span class=\"s1\">went underground<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, dodging all attempts to be picked up. He was allegedly holed up in a private residence on <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Victoria Island<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, while investigators quietly closed in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">After weeks of tracking, officers of the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID)<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> at Alagbon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2025\/07\/21\/court-grants-bail-to-scott-iguma-after-defamation-arrest\/\">finally apprehended him. <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">In an apparent move to buy time, Abu Abel filed a <\/span><span class=\"s1\">fundamental human rights suit<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, trying to halt his arrest and derail the ongoing investigation. But the FCID team reportedly had enough evidence on their side. Reports claim they had payment receipts, communication records, and signed documents connecting him to the controversial deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214877\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-214877\" style=\"width: 495px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-214877\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2025\/07\/IMG_9408.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"495\" height=\"619\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2025\/07\/IMG_9408.jpeg 495w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2025\/07\/IMG_9408-240x300.jpeg 240w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-214877\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abu Abel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">To make matters worse, the police added that Abu Abel is also <\/span><span class=\"s1\">under investigation<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> for possible connections to a <\/span><span class=\"s1\">cult group<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> with suspected involvement in <\/span><span class=\"s1\">land grabbing, fraud, and intimidation<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> in both Lagos and Ogun states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">If convicted, he could face multiple charges ranging from <\/span><span class=\"s1\">obtaining money under false pretence<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> to <\/span><span class=\"s1\">criminal breach of trust<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">conspiracy to defraud<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The complainant, Doyin Investment Group, has now appealed directly to <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, urging him to ensure the recovery of their money and that justice is served.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">This isn\u2019t the first time Abu Abel\u2019s name has been linked to land disputes. In early 2024, he publicly accused certain <\/span><span class=\"s1\">government officials<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> of attempting to take over his land in <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Silicon Estate<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, Eti-Osa.
