Nollywood is an industry that can boast of many talented professionals who are talented, which is why it can be heart-wrenching seeing talented and gifted acts waste away playing one role over and over again, thereby limiting such individual. One would imagine it shouldn\u2019t be difficult for a good actor to imitate or have diverse roles in different movies. <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The fault might generally not lie in the hands of these actors alone. Asides the fact that some actors are very comfortable having a typecast or stereotype role because it\u2019s what brought them into limelight and for fear of being irrelevant; some actors have little choice in the matter due to viewers who refuse to move on from one particular role or character one person has played in the past. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

However, the trend of typecasting and stereotyping Nollywood actors according to critics have proven to affect their prowess and creativity and more often than not when such actors are featured in an entirely different role, it suddenly feels out of place. For instance, imagine Iya Gbonkan as a sincerely sweet and loving mother or mother-in-law or Kanayo O Kanayo ending up as a poor man in a movie. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Having stereotype roles could be a blessing or curse in the sense that it could make such an actor or limit the actor\u2019s prowess. We don\u2019t call it the \u2018make-believe industry\u2019 for nothing. A truely seasoned actor who knows his onions should be able to take up diverse roles comfortably. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Below are some of the Nollywood actors who have typecast roles in movies. <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

1. Kudirat Soremi aka Mama No Network<\/span><\/h3>\n

Kudirat Soremi is a Nigerian comic actress and producer popularly known as \u201cMama No Network\u201d. She is the wife of the popular Nigerian comic actor Chief Soremi Adeola popularly called \u2018Lanko Omo Oba Dubai\u2019. Kudirat Soremi (Mama No Network) was born on April 25 in Ogun State. The comic actress is a native of Olisa in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.<\/span><\/p>\n

The actress is popularly known for playing the role of a character with partial deafness which earned her the nickname \u2018Mama No Network\u2019. She has been able to warm the heart of many Yoruba movie lovers with this hilarious act of hers and garnered a generous fandom for herself. She portrays the character so well that there have been questions about whether the actress is truly living with the condition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kudirat Soremi who has been in the movie industry for about 20 years explained that her first time playing the role of someone suffering from partial deafness was in the movie Aginju Iberu<\/em> which was produced by Tope Egbeji.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peter Fatomilola was born on the 16th of January, 1946 at Ifisin Ekiti in Ido Osi, Ekiti State.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fatomilola stated that his father, Chief Abraham Ojo Fatomilola was the Olu Awo of his town (head of the herbalists).<\/span><\/p>\n

His background as the son of an Ifa Priest has influenced a lot of his Nollywood roles. Fatomilola joined the Olokun Theatre group in 1967. He was under the tutelage of the late Professor Ola Rotimi, a renowned dramatist and prolific playwright at the Obafemi Awolowo University.<\/span><\/p>\n

He revealed that he also trained under Professor Wole Soyinka for 10 years. Also, he learnt some aspect of Yoruba oral literature from Professor Wande Abimbola.<\/span><\/p>\n
