{"id":53939,"date":"2022-01-18T15:06:57","date_gmt":"2022-01-18T15:06:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/?p=53939"},"modified":"2022-01-18T15:06:57","modified_gmt":"2022-01-18T15:06:57","slug":"alleged-n6-billion-fraud-mompha-opts-for-remand-at-ikoyi-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2022\/01\/18\/alleged-n6-billion-fraud-mompha-opts-for-remand-at-ikoyi-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"Alleged N6 billion fraud: Mompha opts for remand at Ikoyi prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, alias Mompha, on Tuesday opted to be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Center following his inability to meet the strict bail conditions imposed by an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mompha and his company Ismalob Global Investment Ltd were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged N6 billion fraud, on Jan. 12.<\/p>\n<p>The eight-count charges are conspiracy to launder funds obtained through unlawful activity and laundering of funds obtained through unlawful activity.<\/p>\n<p>Others are retention of proceeds of criminal conduct, use of property derived from an unlawful act, possession of documents containing false pretence and failure to disclose assets and properties.<\/p>\n<p>He was earlier remanded in the custody of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2022\/01\/12\/efcc-arraigns-mompha-for-alleged-fresh-n6b-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EFCC<\/a> after the Jan. 12 proceedings and the court had fixed Jan. 18 to hear his bail application.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Mojisola Dada, at the resumption of proceedings on Tuesday after hearing the submissions of defence counsel, Mr Gboyega Oyewole (SAN) and EFCC prosecutor, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), granted Mompha bail, in \u201cvery strong terms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe applicant is granted bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties in like sum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the sureties must have a property valued at N100 million within the jurisdiction of this honourable court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth sureties must depose to an affidavit of means to allow the placement of a lien in their respective bank accounts, both sureties must be gainfully employed and resident within the jurisdiction of this court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sureties must provide proof of tax payment for the past three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe applicant shall, however, be remanded in a Correctional Center of his choice pending the perfection of his bail,\u201d Dada said.<\/p>\n<p>However, Mompha after consultation with his legal team opted to be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Center.<\/p>\n<p>The case was adjourned until March 28, 29 and April 4, 5 and 6 for commencement of trial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, alias Mompha, on Tuesday opted to be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Center following his inability to meet the strict bail conditions imposed by an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos.
