As today is the first of February, let\u2019s take a look at the hottest songs that trended last month. If you are a music lover, you would have heard more than half, of not more.<\/em><\/p>\n

1. DJ YK – Wa Wa Wa Warisi<\/span><\/h3>\n

This Warisi cruise beat<\/em> song mix that has recently blown up into a trending sound and has also become a meme on the internet<\/span> started trending in the third week of January. <\/span><\/p>\n

What inspired DJ YK to make the cruise beat is due to a video that trended online showing a young man dancing with illuminated shoes and the voice of another man in the background hyping the dancer in a really funny way by improvising with his name and ad-libs as he went. The video then moved to Twitter where it became a full-on trend. <\/span><\/p>\n

A few days later, popular record and dance beats producer, DJ YK, refixed the audio from the video and spun the hype from Warisi\u2019s friend into the<\/span> Warisi Cruise Beat<\/span><\/em> that is now making rounds on the internet as well as in real life. The uptempo dance beat made it twice as contagious as even singer, Davido<\/a> could not resist the trend, hopping on it by using the audio on his Instagram stories and even humorously addressing a friend in a video as \u2018Warisi.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Fireboy ft Ed Sheeran \u2013 Peru Remix<\/span><\/h3>\n

2021 was talented singer, Fireboy\u2019s year as he enjoyed massive success with the release of the Shizzi<\/a> produced Afropop tune Peru<\/em>. The song warmed the hearts of millions of people not just in Nigeria, but all around the world \u2018jamming from Miami to San Francisco\u2019. To cap it all, despite calls from various quarters to feature Buju<\/a> or Wande Coal<\/a> on the remix, Fireboy<\/a> made the rewarding decision to feature DSPs lover boy and British Grammy award winning superstar, EdSheeran<\/a> on the official remix of the single. The remix which was released in December has become Fireboy\u2019s biggest streaming hit till date. The remix pushed Peru<\/em> to greater heights, achieving 5 million streams in a week,\u00a0<\/span>10 million YouTube views within the same time frame and 10million streams on Spotify. The song is already certified silver in the UK, got co signs from the country \u201cPeru\u201d and is favored by critics to make the Billboard Hot 100. Peru<\/em> is also the first song by a Nigerian artiste to reach no. 2 on the UK charts. <\/span><\/p>\n

3. Portable ft Pocolee and Olamide \u2013 Zazoo Zeh<\/span><\/h3>\n

Zazu<\/em> or Zazoo<\/em> in Nigeria is being attributed to the Nigerian artist, Portable Omolalomi<\/a>. It means a movement of some sorts \u2014 when something has happened. Released in December 2021, Zazoo<\/em> is on its way to becoming one of the biggest Nigerian street pop songs. Unseating other \u2018street\u2019 songs, Zazu<\/em>, like Warisi<\/em> also became a slang in Nigeria. The song became known after a freestyle video of Portable was posted on Instagram. Portable thereafter linked up with dancer and hype man, Pocolee<\/a> and Rapper, Olamide<\/a> to deliver the jam\u00a0 <\/span>Zazoo<\/em>.

Following the positive review of his single, High<\/em> featuring superstar singer, Davido, Adekunle Gold<\/a> announced the release of his fourth studio album titled Catch me If You Can<\/em>. The album is preceded with the release of the single Mercy<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Mercy<\/em> is a feel good track which interpolates the 90s classic single Denge Pose<\/em> by Baba Fryo. The song is produced by Blaise beats<\/a> and is housed on AG\u2019s highly anticipated Catch me If You Can<\/em> album. <\/span><\/p>\n

5. Ruger – Dior\/ Snapchat<\/span><\/h3>\n

Talented singer, Ruger unleashed exotic masterpiece track dubbed Snapchat<\/em> and Dior<\/em> in late 2021, although the video of Snapchat<\/em> was released in January, it is one of the songs that rocked the month. Both tunes are taken from his most recent undertaking Second Wave<\/i> EP.
