He wrote:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBiyi B\u00c1ND\u00c9L\u00c9 goes home. The Writer, Poet, Screenwriter, Director and Photographer was buried today in Lagos after a brief ceremony. May his soul rest in peace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2022\/08\/09\/just-in-blood-sisters-director-biyi-bandele-is-dead\/\">Biyi Bandele died in Lagos at the age of 54<\/a>. According to a statement by daughter Temi Bandele, he passed on, on Sunday, August 7. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The statement reads:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI am heartbroken to share the sudden and unexpected death on Sunday 7th of August in Lagos of my father Biyi Bandele.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBiyi was a prodigiously talented writer and filmmaker, as well as a loyal friend and beloved father.\u00a0He was a storyteller to his bones, with an unblinking perspective, singular voice and wisdom which spoke boldly through all of his art, in poetry, novels, plays and on screen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHe told stories which made a profound impact and inspired many all over the world.\u00a0 His legacy will live on through his work.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHe was taken from us much too soon. He had already said so much so beautifully, and had so much more to say.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe ask everyone to please respect the privacy of his family and friends as we grieve his loss.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Born on October 13, 1967 in Kafanchan, Southern Kaduna to parents from Abeokuta, Ogun State, Bandele was studying dramatic arts at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile Ife, when he won the BBC Playwriting Competition, and thereafter relocated to England where he had a flourishing career as a writer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He co-directed <\/span><span class=\"s2\"><i>Blood Sisters<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\">, a four-part Netflix Original series by EbonyLife Films.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">His earlier works include <\/span><span class=\"s2\"><i>Half of a Yellow Sun<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i> <\/i>adapted from Chimamanda Adichie\u2019s novel of the same title and <\/span><em><span class=\"s2\">Fifty <\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">another EbonyLife production.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He was also a director of the TV series <\/span><em><span class=\"s2\">SHUGA: What\u2019s Your Reality<\/span><span class=\"s1\">; <\/span><span class=\"s2\">FELA \u2013 Father of Afrobeat, <\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">a TV special documentary for the BBC, and his self-produced TV documentary <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Africa States of Independence<\/span><span class=\"s1\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">His latest work <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/entertainment\/2022\/08\/07\/elesin-oba-the-kings-horseman-my-character-had-no-lines-was-challenging-yet-surreal-omowunmi-dada\/\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>Elesin Oba, the King\u2019s Horseman<\/i><\/span><\/a><span class=\"s1\"><i>,<\/i> a Netflix Original movie by EbonyLife Films, adapted from Wole Soyinka\u2019s classic drama <\/span><span class=\"s2\"><i>Death &amp; The King\u2019s Horsema<\/i>n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">, is scheduled for screening at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">His novels include <\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"font-style: italic\">The Man Who Came in from the Back of Beyond<\/span><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-style: italic\">, <\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"font-style: italic\">The Street<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s2\"><i>Burma Boy<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Bandele is survived by his son Korede and daughter Temi.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ace film director, Biyi Bandele has been laid to rest in Lagos on Friday, September 23.
