Catholic school accused of hurriedly burying student who died after being beaten by teacher

The management of a Catholic school in Onitsha, Anambra state has been accused of hurriedly burying a 11-year-old student, Izuchukwu Onwualu, who died after he was allegedly beaten by a teacher and settling the deceased’s family with N200,000.

The deceased, a JSS 1 student of St. Valerian School Akpaka, Onitsha, was reportedly flogged at school last Tuesday, Jan 11, by his basic science teacher.

It was gathered that Izuchukwu reportedly hit his head on the wall while the teacher was beating and after which he began complaining of headache. He was taken to a hospital where he died the following day, Jan. 12

A viral video shows Izuchukwu looking weak as he lay on a hospital bed moments before his death.

After his death, the proprietor of the school, who is a Catholic priest, visited the Onwualu family together with other members of staff and allegedly gave the deceased’s father N200,000 to allow the issue to die down.

The school then conducted a quick burial for Izuchukwu.
