Nigerian court allegedly fines lady N150k for failing to show up after accepting N3k transport fare from man

A Nigerian lawyer has alleged that a court in Enugu fined a lady a hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N150,000) for failing to show up after accepting three thousand Naira (N3,000) from a man for her transportation fare.

The lawyer with username @Egi_nupe_ took to Twitter with claims that he saw it on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) page and decided to share the story.

The lady in question had allegedly taken N3k transport fare and switched off her phone after receiving the money. The guy who she was meant to visit felt cheated and took the case to court which resulted in his favour.

The post reads:

“A court in Enugu has reportedly set a good precedent by awarding damages of 150k against a lady. She was given 3k as transport fare to visit a guy and after collecting the money, she switched off her phone and refused to visit him. Infuriated by her action, the reported and …

…sued her for deceit. In the judgement, the magistrate held that the lady’s action was deceitful and awarded the sum of 150k against her to serve as deterrence to others with such deceitful behavior.”
