DSS officer arrested for allegedly shooting Abuja Tailor over ‘disappointment’

A disgruntled customer took matters into her own hands by enlisting DSS officers to accompany her in confronting a tailor who had reneged on a contracted job, The situation escalated with gunshots, plunging Garki Market into chaos, leading to subsequent arrest

Amidst chaotic scenes in Abuja’s Garki market, the FCT police have apprehended an as-yet-unnamed Department of State Security (DSS) officer, accusing him of firing a gunshot at a local tailor.

As reported by onlookers, an irate customer had brought along DSS officers to confront a tailor who had not fulfilled a job contracted to him.  Tensions soared when the DSS officer reportedly discharged a firearm, injuring both the tailor and another woman, who are now undergoing hospital treatment.

As tempers flared, traders on the verge of mob justice were thwarted by the swift intervention of the police, who detained the implicated officer. The incensed traders subsequently stormed a police post, demanding his release and causing damage in the process.

In response, the DSS, through its spokesperson, Peter Ifunanya, confirmed the launch of an investigation into the incident.

‘’The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to an incident that occurred a few hours ago (today, 7/9/2023) between its staff and a mob at the Garki Market, Abuja. Information at the disposal of the Service was that its FCT Command responded to an SOS from their field operatives who allegedly came under a mob attack in the said market.

Consequently, the Service has commenced an investigation into the matter. The public is assured that details of the inquiries will be communicated as soon as possible. The Service assures that it will not hesitate to mete out proper disciplinary measure(s) to its staff if found culpable or running foul of Standard Operating Procedures on dealing with a member of the public.”
