“The salary is N623k, but a master’s degree is a must” – Mum searches for babysitter, requirement causes buzz

Mother's strict babysitter requirements spark controversy on social media

An Oyinbo mum identified as Tammy has drawn widespread attention and criticism for her stringent requirements in the search for a babysitter to care for her four young children.

Tammy’s job advertisement, which she shared online, outlined the qualifications and conditions that the potential babysitter must meet.

She disclosed that she has four children, aged 2, 3, 5, and 7, and was in need of someone to provide childcare from noon to 6 pm on weekdays, with occasional weekend duties.

However, it was the extensive list of requirements that has stirred up controversy and garnered criticism from social media users.

The advertisement stated that the ideal candidate must be a “great cook and avid cleaner,” be over 25 years old, and possess a minimum education level of a master’s degree.

Furthermore, Tammy’s demands didn’t stop there.

Her posting indicated that the potential babysitter should have no presence on social media, should abstain from drinking, smoking, and even vaping, and should have no visible tattoos or piercings.

She also required five professional references, and applicants could expect a background check and drug test as part of the hiring process.

The job, which offered a weekly salary of N155,000, came with the additional expectation that the babysitter provide their own transportation and be available for running errands as needed.

Social media users swiftly responded to Tammy’s ad, with many criticizing her for setting excessively high standards for a babysitter.

Netizens Reactions…

One user said, “I wouldn’t do that for N4,600 a day,” highlighting the impracticality of the demands. Others have questioned Tammy’s own qualifications, with one person asking, “Does Tammy have a Master’s degree – or is she just pulling this out of thin air?”
