Outrage as OAU lecturer assaults student for refusing to switch off his phone during class – VIDEO

Who is to blame?" is a recurring question that follows a viral video of a lecturer hitting a student for disobeying his instructions in class. He asked the student to give him his phone, which the student blatantly refused, leaving some netizens to blame the lecturer for his violent reaction, while others claimed that the student had provoked him.

A Lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun state, has been embroiled in a controversy for assaulting a student over his refusal to switch off his phone while in class.

In a widely circulated video, Dr Ariyo of the Electrical Engineering Department is heard asking the student to turn off his phone, to which he declined.

You can’t be more than me” he said to him

The student refused to follow his instructions. The lecturer out of fury, forcibly took the phone from him and then pushed him.

Lere Olayinka, a former aide to ex-governor Ayo Fayose who posted the video online said the student bled from the assault.

He wrote;

’This is a lecturer in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Dr. Ariyo, from the Department of Elect Engineering, assaulting a student in his class today.

The student is currently bleeding and his SAMSUNG phone damaged.’

Lere Olayinka 2 hours agoO In most cases, inability to control your anger and emotion will take you from the position of being right to wrong. I have seen men who probably beat their wives at home defending that OAU lecturer, Dr Ariyo.

You told a student to switch off phone and the student refused. Then you opted to drag the phone with and assault the student. What happened to the lecturer telling the student to leave his class? If the student refused to leave, what happened to the lecturer walking out of the class after taking the identify of the unruly student?

As he was beating the student, what if the student already had health issues? What if the student slumped and died?”

The video drew mixed reactions from fans.
