Chancellor Ahaghotu, a Savannah College of Art and Design student in Atlanta, United States, has etched his name in history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest painting marathon.

Breaking a decade-old record, Chancellor painted for an astounding 100 consecutive hours, creating 106 pieces on 100 canvases. His diverse artwork featured sketches of celebrities, food items, plants, and animals.

Guinness World Records (GWR) made the announcement on Wednesday, acknowledging Chancellor’s remarkable achievement. The post highlighted his endurance and creativity, noting, “After painting for 100 consecutive hours, Nigerian art student Chancellor Ahaghotu has broken a decade-old record for the longest painting marathon.”

During the 60th hour, the Chancellor commemorated the milestone by painting a broken record player. The marathon concluded with a poignant piece depicting an exhausted person, symbolizing the artist’s journey.

In an interview, Chancellor shared insights into the challenging process, revealing that fatigue set in around the 88-hour mark. Despite the physical strain, his commitment to reaching the 100-hour target remained unwavering.

The 106 paintings serve as a visual representation of Chancellor’s diverse moods and feelings throughout the marathon. He expressed joy and celebration upon completing the gruelling 100 hours, emphasizing personal achievement, career advancement, and pride in serving his school and country.

Chancellor’s feat eclipses the previous record held by Belgian painter Roland Palmaerts, who painted for 60 hours in 2013. This achievement adds another accolade to Nigeria’s artistic prowess, following Lola Mewu’s attempt last November to set a new record for the longest painting marathon, clocking an impressive 82 hours.

Chancellor’s record-breaking accomplishment showcases individual talent and contributes to the global recognition of Nigerian artists on the world stage.
