Ivorian man apologizes to wife, children after going viral for toasting Senegalese lady during live match

Anselme Santos, apologized and expressed regret over his actions

An Ivorian man, Anselme Santos, has publicly apologized to his wife and children over an incident during a live AFCON football match where he was caught asking a Senegalese lady for her phone number.

The clip of Santos and the unnamed lady circulated widely after the Round 16 match between Senegal and Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) on January 29, sparking memes and online chatter.

Following this, Santos appeared with his wife on the popular Ivorian program, Sly de Sly Show, where he expressed regret for his actions.

As reported by Actu Foot on X (formerly Twitter), Santos admitted his error in attempting to flirt with the lady and apologized for any distress caused to his family.

During the show, Santos disclosed that he had indeed asked the Senegalese lady for her number but respected her refusal when she declined to give it to him.

He described the encounter as a moment of euphoria during the match, expressing remorse for any unintended offense caused.

I asked her for her number; it was euphoric; we were talking before and during the match. I apologise to the lady in the video. In the euphoria, I told her, ‘Give me your number’. It wasn’t mean, but she didn’t want to. So I didn’t insist. I want to take this opportunity to apologise to the lady, my wife, and my children,” Santos stated, as quoted by Actu Foot.
