Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, and former Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to commiserate with the royal family and people of Ijebuland over the passing of the Awujale, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

Obi and Rhodes-Vivour were warmly received by members of the royal household at the GRA Palace in Ijebu-Ode, where they signed on the condolence register, offered their respects to the revered monarch who passed away at the age of 90 after reigning for over six decades.

Photos of the visit shared and circulating on social media showed the two politicians engaged in solemn conversations with palace officials and other mourners, reinforcing the deep sense of loss felt across the country.

Peter Obi, in his brief address during the visit, described the late Oba Adetona as a “highly principled and deeply respected monarch whose legacy of transparency, courage, and advocacy for good governance will never be forgotten.”

He emphasized the Awujale’s strong stance on justice and accountability in public service, which, according to him, endeared him to both citizens and leaders across political divides.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour also expressed his condolences, highlighting the late monarch’s impact on national unity and his significant contributions to the socio-political landscape of Nigeria.

He praised the Awujale’s foresight and commitment to the progress of Ijebuland, which transformed the region into a symbol of stability and cultural pride.
