Fish Magnet’s murder in Anambra: Reno Omokri puts Peter Obi on the spot

Political analyst and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has taken aim at Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and Ex-Anambra governor, Peter Obi, over his silence on the gruesome murder of Anambra-based entrepreneur and influencer, Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet.

Fish Magnet was reportedly abducted by unidentified gunmen in his home state of Anambra and later confirmed dead.

His tragic demise has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians including Verydarkman mourning the loss of the young businessman, known for his creative seafood brand and social media engagement.

Reno Omokri, in a strongly-worded statement shared via his social media page, questioned Peter Obi’s conspicuous silence over the killing. Omokri wrote:

This is Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet, a promising young entrepreneur from Anambra State, who was also a social media influencer. He was abducted and then murdered in his home state. May his soul rest in peace.

But how come Peter Obi, who is from Anambra State, like the late Mr. Onyekere, has not said anything? Isn’t that strange?”

He further accused Obi of selective outrage, alleging that the former Anambra governor only comments on tragic incidents when they occur outside the Southeast.

“The Peter Obi we know is never shy about jumping onto trending issues like this, as long as they occur outside Igboland.
We saw how he attacked the Federal and State governments hours after the Ibadan stampede deaths, and how he politicised the burning of Deborah Samuel for blasphemy, and the deaths of some persons in Uromi.”

Omokri also referenced recent statements made by Obi about national economic issues, contrasting them with his current silence:

Yesterday, he lied about the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), misinforming Nigerians that President Tinubu is about to borrow $21 billion.
This afternoon, he accused President Tinubu of a ‘leadership failure.’
However, Peter Obi is reluctant to comment on tragedies in the Southeast.”

Reno concluded by tagging Obi’s pattern of response as “tribalistic”:

That is Peter Obi’s regular trademark. If it happens in Igboland, Obi will suddenly become deaf, dumb, and blind. But Peter Obi will dance naked in public if it occurs in the North or Southwest. Or am I lying?”
