Anambra Tragedy: Girlfriend of murdered Fish Seller recounts terrifying final hours before his death

Fish Magnet and girlfriend

The girlfriend of Ifesinachi Martins Onyekesi aka Fish Magnet, a young fish seller who was recently kidnapped and killed in Anambra State, has broken her silence, narrating in detail the events leading to his abduction, the ransom attempt, and his eventual death.

In a viral statement shared on social media, the grieving girlfriend recounted their final conversation on Saturday, July 26, 2025. She said they spoke late into the night, not knowing it would be their last communication.

“On Saturday, 26th July 2025, you called and we spoke all through till after 9 p.m. Unknowingly to me, that would be the last time I would hear from you,” she wrote.

According to her, Onyekesi was shot around 10 p.m. on Sunday in front of his family’s residence before he was abducted by unknown gunmen.

They didn’t just shoot you but carried you away. Mumsi and Chebe kept calling until 11 p.m., when the kidnappers finally picked and demanded ₦10 million, insisting it must be delivered within 20 minutes,” she narrated.

She explained that the family managed to raise and transfer the ransom money before midnight. However, there was no further communication from the kidnappers until around 4 a.m. on Monday when they called again.

“They told Chebe to go to St. Matthew Catholic Church. She and Mumsi went there and found you barely alive. You were rushed to the hospital, but you didn’t survive,” she added.

On the same day, his vehicle was found abandoned in Amobia, a town in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

She also revealed that they had built multiple businesses together — MG_Bodybang, Fish Magnet, and MG Logistics — from scratch, working without any employees or external support.

“You said you wanted to go to Thailand. We spoke about our plans. You didn’t keep to what we agreed. Where do I start from — 2019, 2020, 2021, or 2022?” She continued.

She ended her tribute by describing Onyekesi as “the most humble man I ever knew” and vowed never to forget him.

The incident has sparked outrage across social media, with many users demanding immediate police investigation and stronger security enforcement in the state.
