Violent clashes broke out at Okere Roundabout in Warri as Itsekiri and Urhobo youths reportedly confronted each other during celebrations marking the 4th Coronation Anniversary of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri Kingdom.
The incident, which has gone viral on social media, captured in footage, shows the youths engaging in a tense confrontation, drawing attention to lingering ethnic tensions in the area.
According to multiple sources, the confrontation was triggered when Urhobo youths from Okere-Urhobo Kingdom and Agbasa community allegedly attacked Itsekiri participants celebrating the Olu of Warri’s coronation anniversary.
The assault is said to have been unprovoked, with the Itsekiri crowd reportedly caught off guard during the ceremonial procession. The Urhobo attackers allegedly employed firearms and other weapons, resulting in multiple injuries among Itsekiri youths.
The clash reflects long-standing ethnic friction in the Warri region, which has historically witnessed disputes between the Itsekiri and Urhobo communities over territory, festivals, and political influence.

In other news, a serious accusation against former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, surfaced online, as a young woman, Hadiza Musa Baffa, publicly accused him of raping her in 2014 and intimidating her into silence for more than a decade.
In a video published on Thursday, Hadiza spoke emotionally about the incident, alleging that the senior lawyer used his influence to suppress her voice and subject both her and her child to years of harassment. She further claimed that Turaki is the biological father of her child.
According to Hadiza, the alleged assault took place in September 2014, while she was a student at Base University, Abuja.
