{"id":15718,"date":"2023-02-17T21:26:33","date_gmt":"2023-02-17T21:26:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/?p=15718"},"modified":"2023-02-17T21:26:33","modified_gmt":"2023-02-17T21:26:33","slug":"despite-cbn-directive-bank-closure-nationwide-uba-tells-customers-to-bring-n1000-n500-notes-to-the-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/2023\/02\/17\/despite-cbn-directive-bank-closure-nationwide-uba-tells-customers-to-bring-n1000-n500-notes-to-the-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"Despite CBN directive, bank closure Nationwide, UBA tells customers to bring N1000, N500 notes to the bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The crisis in the polity over the naira redesign and naira swap policies of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been further worsened by conflicting directives sent out by the apex bank.<\/p>\n<p>This confusion has led to the CBN and commercial banks in Nigeria issuing different directives to Nigerians over deposits of old N500 and N1,000 notes.<\/p>\n<p>On the CBN website, tracked by <strong>WITHIN NIGERIA,<\/strong> the CBN had written that Nigerians should generate a reference code, print it out and \u201c<strong>proceed to your selected bank branch to deposit your old N1000, N500 and N200 notes into your bank account.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15721\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2023\/02\/samdave\/2023\/02\/17\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"301\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2023\/02\/samdave\/2023\/02\/17\/image-5.png 301w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2023\/02\/samdave\/2023\/02\/17\/image-5-141x300.png 141w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hours later, the CBN\u2019s corporate communications director, Osita Nwansiobi, released a statement on Twitter on Friday evening, stating that the Central bank has not ordered DMBs to accept old N500 and N1000 deposits.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/cenbank\/status\/1626613433339707394?s=20<\/p>\n<p>However, United Bank for Africa (UBA) sent an email to its account users on Friday, told them that old Notes can now be deposited across their branches within the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>We have not stopped collecting old N500 and N1000 notes.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cPlease note that the maximum deposit value is N500,000 per customer.
