{"id":9449,"date":"2021-11-30T04:14:16","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T04:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/?p=9449"},"modified":"2021-11-30T04:14:16","modified_gmt":"2021-11-30T04:14:16","slug":"man-discharged-and-acquitted-3-years-after-he-was-wrongfully-remanded-in-prison-for-alleged-kidnapping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/2021\/11\/30\/man-discharged-and-acquitted-3-years-after-he-was-wrongfully-remanded-in-prison-for-alleged-kidnapping\/","title":{"rendered":"Man discharged and acquitted 3 years after he was wrongfully remanded in prison for alleged kidnapping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Human right activist, Living Saint, has narrated how he helped a man who was wrongfully accused and remanded in prison for kidnapping and related offences get justice.<\/p>\n<p>Living Saint stated that the man was discharged and acquitted after he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/2021\/03\/15\/justiceforitunu-nigerians-demand-justice-for-lady-jailed-20-years-in-cote-divoire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrongfully<\/a> sent to jail 3 years for a crime he didn&#8217;t commit.<\/p>\n<p>According to the activist, the man was remanded by a Magistrate Court on a count of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/2021\/10\/15\/ogun-man-accused-of-kidnapping-two-orphans-sold-one-in-libya-for-prostitution-kept-the-other-as-sex-slave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kidnap<\/a> and other related offenses, despite the fact there was no complainant.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that an High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, on Monday, Nov. 29 confirmed he didn&#8217;t commit the crime and declared him innocent.<\/p>\n<p>Living Saint shared the news on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/2021\/09\/02\/suspected-herdsmen-post-their-photos-on-womans-facebook-wall-after-allegedly-stealing-her-phone-in-adamawa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> alongside pictures of the man shortly after he was discharged and acquitted.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote: &#8220;I went to the Magistrate court 3years ago to get a date and I saw this young man. He was crying and praying the rosary. I went and sat beside him and asked him why he was crying.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He kept on saying &#8220;I didn&#8217;t do it, I didn&#8217;t do it&#8221;. He was remanded by the Magistrate on a count of kidnap and other related offenses. No complainant.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He told me his story. I believed him. I told him I&#8217;d take it up on pro bono. He laid there and started praying for me. I pushed for his matter to be charged at the High Court.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today the 29th of November,2021, the Judge of the High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has confirmed he didn&#8217;t do it and has declared him innocent. Discharged and Acquitted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It can only be God.
