Gunmen have released Mr. Takai Shamang, the former leader of the Nigeria Labour Congress, who was abducted on Friday, July 5, 2024.

Shamang was taken from his country home in Biniki village, Kaura Local Government, Kaduna State. The 78-year-old former unionist’s release was confirmed by his daughter, Mrs. Grace Abbin, through a WhatsApp status update.

“To God Almighty be the Glory. My family lack words to appreciate every one of you for the safe return of our daddy, comrade Elder Takai A. Shamang,” she wrote, without providing details on the circumstances of his release or if a ransom was paid.

Shamang is the President and Founder of Gantys Aid for Widows, Orphans, and Needy Foundation, known as GAWON Foundation. He also served as President General of the National Union of Electricity and Gas Workers, now the National Union of Electricity Employees, from 1982 to 1989.
