{"id":101015,"date":"2021-11-01T09:39:18","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T08:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=101015"},"modified":"2021-11-01T09:39:18","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T08:39:18","slug":"lagos-taskforce-impounds-204-motorcycles-arrests-50-suspected-hoodlums","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/01\/lagos-taskforce-impounds-204-motorcycles-arrests-50-suspected-hoodlums\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos taskforce impounds 204 motorcycles, arrests 50 suspected hoodlums"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit Taskforce says it has arrested 50 hoodlums and impounded 204 motorcycles.<\/p>\n<p>A statement in Lagos on Sunday by Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, Head, Public Affairs Unit, said the hoodlums were arrested during raids on black spots.<\/p>\n<p>It also said that the task force unit had commenced a tactical enforcement code-named, \u201cOperation Kogberegbe\u201d to ensure a hitch-free festive season.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said, \u201cOperation Kogberegbe\u201d would clamp down on illegal ticketers on the state\u2019s highways, street urchins popularly known as \u2018area boys\u2019, and motorcyclists plying restricted routes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe unit commenced its tactical and strategic enforcement for compliance operations this week with code name \u2018Operation Kogberegbe.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is to instill discipline and entrench sanity in the state, with a view to achieving the state\u2019s vision of zero tolerance for criminal elements, hideouts, okada operation on restricted routes, and other environmental law offenders in the state,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The statement disclosed that over 204 motorcycles known as okada were impounded at Ojodu Berger, Ketu Alapere, Agric, Allen Avenue, Ikeja for plying restricted routes\/roads and violating the state traffic laws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnforcement officers were attacked by hoodlums in collaboration with okada riders at the Ojodu Berger area but they were subdued due to the superior tactical and systemic strategies of his men,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that the restricted routes had been published several times to avoid unnecessary excuses of not being aware of the state laws on restriction by okada operators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome offenders turned deaf ears and all efforts put in place by the enforcement agency to sensitise, educate and enlighten them to see the dangers of plying on the highways proved abortive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the restricted routes will be closely monitored to rid the state of okada riders\u2019 menace which could lead to needless loss of lives and serious security challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis week\u2019s activities are a signal to all recalcitrant environmental laws offenders who circumvent government rules and regulations as provided by regulatory provision of the law, that such offenders shall be made to face the full wrath of the law,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n<p>The statement noted that the unit raided some black spots at the Oshodi area, Mile 12, and other trouble spots in the state where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/26\/benue-police-shoot-seven-month-old-baby-while-attempting-to-arrest-hoodlums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hoodlums<\/a> were arrested with charms, machetes and other harmful weapons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the suspects will be charged to court for various offences and for disturbing the public peace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agency will not rest on its oars until all recalcitrant okada operators tow the line of best practices and the state is free from hoodlums, streets urchins known as area boys,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit Taskforce says it has arrested 50 hoodlums and impounded 204 motorcycles.
