{"id":10129,"date":"2021-03-18T14:23:03","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T13:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=10129"},"modified":"2021-03-18T14:23:03","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T13:23:03","slug":"covenant-university-sacks-lecturer-arrested-for-allegedly-raping-17-year-old-student","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/18\/covenant-university-sacks-lecturer-arrested-for-allegedly-raping-17-year-old-student\/","title":{"rendered":"Covenant University sacks lecturer arrested for allegedly raping 17-year-old student"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The management of Covenant University has sacked Dr. Stephen Ukenna, a lecturer that was arrested for allegedly raping a 17 year old student in his office.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ukenna was a lecturer in the Department of Business Management at the Covenant University before he was arrested for \u201cforcefully having unlawful carnal knowledge of the student.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was earlier reported that he was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/16\/ogun-police-arrest-lecturer-for-allegedly-raping-17-year-old-undergraduate-in-his-office\/\">nabbed on March 11<\/a><\/strong>, after a complaint was lodged at Ota Area Command by the parents of the victim.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed in a statement that the victim called her parents on phone from the school that she was invited by the lecturer to his office on the said date under the pretense that he wanted to plan a surprise birthday party for her close friend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut on getting to the lecture\u2019s office, he locked the office door and forcefully had sex with her on top of the table in his office.<\/p>\n<p>Upon the report, the Area Commander Ota, Acp Muyideen Obe swiftly deployed his JWC team to the school where the randy lecturer was promptly arrested.<\/p>\n<p>On interrogation, the suspect admitted having carnal knowledge of the victim, but was unable to give any reason for his action.\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>The lecturer has been dismissed with immediate effect as approved by the Chancellor and President of the University\u2019s board, Bishop David Oyedepo.<\/p>\n<p>An Alumnus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Nigeria with a Doctor of Philosophy in Marketing, the suspect was employed in the University in 2017 as a lecturer in the Department of Marketing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The management of Covenant University has sacked Dr. Stephen Ukenna, a lecturer that was arrested for allegedly raping a 17 year old student in his office.
