{"id":104644,"date":"2021-11-09T10:57:09","date_gmt":"2021-11-09T09:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=104644"},"modified":"2021-11-09T10:57:09","modified_gmt":"2021-11-09T09:57:09","slug":"two-feared-dead-in-lagos-brt-commercial-bus-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/09\/two-feared-dead-in-lagos-brt-commercial-bus-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"Two feared dead in Lagos BRT, commercial bus crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two people were feared dead and several others injured in a crash involving a Bus Rapid Transit vehicle and a commercial bus on the Ile-Epo, Agege end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the incident happened on Sunday around 8pm when the two vehicles had a head-on collision.<\/p>\n<p>The commercial bus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/09\/angry-mob-sets-car-ablaze-for-killing-two-in-ondo-crash-driver-flees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">driver<\/a> was said to have passed through the BRT lane due to the closure of the Ile-Epo side of the expressway due to ongoing rehabilitation works on the road.<\/p>\n<p>According to PUNCH, residents said drivers are allowed to ply the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/28\/air-force-officials-on-brt-lane-kill-lagos-artiste-offer-family-n200000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BRT<\/a> lane due to the construction work.<\/p>\n<p>However, the bus driver, who was said to be speeding, reportedly overtook other motorists and crashed into the BRT vehicle, which was coming from the opposite direction.<\/p>\n<p>A driver, Taiwo Yusuf, who claimed to have witnessed the accident, blamed it on the impatience of the bus driver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe should have exercised patience and followed others on the lane which commercial buses were allowed to use. Instead, he tried to go in the opposite direction and that was what caused that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/07\/three-die-on-lagos-ibadan-expressway-accident\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accident<\/a>,\u201d Yusuf added.<\/p>\n<p>A taxi driver, Owolabi Adisa, faulted the incessant closure of the Ile-Epo-Super side of the road, which he said was narrow and always flooded.<\/p>\n<p>A resident, Muhammed Aisha, said she saw when the vehicles were towed away on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI heard that two people died and many other passengers were injured in that accident,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Olusegun Ogedengbe, said he was not aware of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, had yet to respond to the incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two people were feared dead and several others injured in a crash involving a Bus Rapid Transit vehicle and a commercial bus on the Ile-Epo, Agege end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos State.
