{"id":105379,"date":"2021-11-10T19:29:35","date_gmt":"2021-11-10T18:29:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=105379"},"modified":"2021-11-10T19:29:35","modified_gmt":"2021-11-10T18:29:35","slug":"former-sars-operatives-ordered-to-pay-n50m-for-killing-suspect-in-custody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/10\/former-sars-operatives-ordered-to-pay-n50m-for-killing-suspect-in-custody\/","title":{"rendered":"Former SARS operatives ordered to pay N50m for killing suspect in custody"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two operatives of the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) have been ordered to pay N50m for killing one Mustapha Idris Muhammad in 2019 in Kano state.<\/p>\n<p>SP Uba Bangajiya and Inspector Garba Galadima were charged before Kano State High Court 4 sitting at Audu Bako Secretariat for alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/20\/bayelsa-policeman-sentenced-to-death-for-extrajudicial-killing-of-a-teenage-student\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extrajudicial killing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding Judge Justice Y M Ubale said the accused persons were found guilty of the offence and ordered them to pay the deceased family the sum of N50m.<\/p>\n<p>Counsel to the family of the deceased, Mustapha Hikima said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/30\/former-sars-operative-flees-after-allegedly-shooting-girlfriend-for-refusing-marriage-proposal-in-delta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SARS<\/a> officials had in 2019 arrested and detained the deceased for 14 days, beat and tortured him to death.<\/p>\n<p>The SARS operatives had arrested Mustapha Idris Muhammad for alleged armed robbery.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Y M Ubale sentenced the operatives to pay the sum of N50M and present a public apology to the families of the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, ordered them to return the deceased phone which is still in their possession.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two operatives of the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) have been ordered to pay N50m for killing one Mustapha Idris Muhammad in 2019 in Kano state.
