{"id":106578,"date":"2021-11-13T03:58:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-13T02:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=106578"},"modified":"2021-11-13T03:58:27","modified_gmt":"2021-11-13T02:58:27","slug":"49-year-old-man-narrates-how-his-two-daughters-died-in-kubwa-kerosene-explosion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/13\/49-year-old-man-narrates-how-his-two-daughters-died-in-kubwa-kerosene-explosion\/","title":{"rendered":"49-year-old man narrates how his two daughters died in Kubwa kerosene explosion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 49-year-old man, Virginus Oleru, has narrated how he lost his two daughters, Chioma and Angel, in the Kerosene explosion that occurred at Kubwa village market in Abuja last Friday November 5.<\/p>\n<p>His wife, who sustained serious burns in the incident is currently at the National Hospital, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that the popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/05\/breaking-kubwa-village-market-on-fire-many-feared-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kubwa Village market<\/a> in Bwari Area Council, Abuja, was destroyed by fire, killing an unknown number of persons last Friday evening, November 5.<\/p>\n<p>Chioma, 14 and Angel, who was barely 21 months, were at the scene of the incident, where their mother, Mrs. Oleru sold foodstuff.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to The Guardian, Mr. Oleru said no one really knows the cause of the fire as there was total blackout in the area when the outbreak occurred.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It all happened in my presence. My youngest daughter (Angel) was not feeling well, so I took her to the house of one of my brothers, who lives nearby. We stayed at my brother\u2019s place for close to three hours. So I came back around 7:00p.m to give my sick daughter her medication as prescribed by the doctor,&#8221; he narrated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I came back home, my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/13\/malawian-man-kills-wifes-lover-after-he-allegedly-caught-them-red-handed-having-sex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wife<\/a> and one of my daughters, Chioma (now deceased) were still outside trading. So I gave Angel to Chioma to carry, so I could get her medication inside the house.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Immediately I went into the compound and was about to open the door, I heard a very loud noise from outside. When I heard that noise and the level of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/21\/akwa-ibom-fire-service-reveals-cause-of-gas-explosion-that-killed-footballer-and-one-other-in-uyo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fire<\/a> I saw from there, I concluded that all my family had gone. I tried going outside, but the fire prevented me. My neighbours also came outside, but we couldn\u2019t put out the fire. I haven\u2019t seen that kind of fire before in my life. So, I had to follow another road to get outside.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank God that firefighters responded early and they started to pour water. But I couldn\u2019t wait.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Immediately, I went to the scene, where I saw my baby lying lifeless, but I couldn\u2019t find my wife and other daughter. I walked all through the dead bodies, but still couldn\u2019t find them. I counted about 20 dead bodies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was while doing that my other two kids, who were not at the scene, told me that they saw their mother rushing Chioma to the hospital.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Oleru said his wife and daughter were rejected at the Kubwa General Hospital for lack of bed, but were accepted at the National Hospital, where Chioma died in the early morning of Saturday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 49-year-old man, Virginus Oleru, has narrated how he lost his two daughters, Chioma and Angel, in the Kerosene explosion that occurred at Kubwa village market in Abuja last Friday November 5.
