{"id":108545,"date":"2021-11-17T20:53:17","date_gmt":"2021-11-17T19:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=108545"},"modified":"2021-11-17T20:53:17","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T19:53:17","slug":"reps-approve-bill-to-make-free-child-healthcare-compulsory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/17\/reps-approve-bill-to-make-free-child-healthcare-compulsory\/","title":{"rendered":"Reps approve bill to make free child healthcare compulsory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The House of Representatives has passed for second reading, a bill seeking to make it compulsory for the Federal Government to provide free health care services for children in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation, which was sponsored by a member, Bello Kaoje, is titled \u2018A Bill for an Act to Make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/17\/uzodinma-directs-immediate-rehabilitation-of-health-centres-in-imo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health<\/a> Care Service Delivery Free for All Children in Nigeria; and for Related Matters.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Leading the debate on the bill at the plenary on Wednesday, Kaoje stated that children\u2019s health needs are significantly different from those of adults. \u201cBy nature, children grow and develop at rapid rates, placing them at special risk of being affected by illness and injury,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker also stated that, \u201cIf health problems are not identified and treated, they can affects a child\u2019s cognitive, physical, behavioural and emotional development,\u201d stressing that, \u201cWith the Federal Government\u2019s health care initiative, Save One Million Lives, it is very important make free medical services for children in Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kaoje noted that when the Free Health Care Services Delivery to Children in Nigeria Bill is passed into law, it would ensure that all health care services delivered to children are for free.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cIt will give the following unique and immediate benefits: The health care services shall include diagnoses, treatment, prevention of illness and other physical and mental impairment in children in Nigeria. The services shall be rendered by the government hospitals in Nigeria.
