{"id":110760,"date":"2021-11-22T19:48:24","date_gmt":"2021-11-22T18:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=110760"},"modified":"2021-11-22T19:48:24","modified_gmt":"2021-11-22T18:48:24","slug":"avoid-parochial-leader-in-2023-tambuwal-tells-nigerians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/22\/avoid-parochial-leader-in-2023-tambuwal-tells-nigerians\/","title":{"rendered":"Avoid parochial leader in 2023, Tambuwal tells Nigerians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal has called on Nigerians to search and vote for politicians that are\u00a0versatile and friendly with all the geopolitical regions in Nigeria in the 2023 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Tambuwal said the citizens should elect \u201cfriends and associates across the length and breadth of the country\u201d, if Nigeria must surmount its current security and economic challenges.<\/p>\n<p>He said Nigeria does not need a \u201cparochial and provincial politician\u201d, but \u201can incorruptible leader who understands that the best way to fight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/22\/buhari-to-declare-open-icpcs-summit-on-public-sector-corruption\/\">corruption<\/a> is by personal examples.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tambuwal said that the security situation in virtually all parts of Nigeria constituted a great challenge to policymakers, but however blamed the scenario on the absence of quality leadership in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The governor expressed these views in a keynote address he delivered in Abuja at the 4th Annual Criminal Law Review Conference of the Rule of Law Development Foundation with the theme: \u201cJudicial Updates and Legislative Developments in Criminal Law: Criminal Procedure Law, Criminal Policy and Evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the event, the coordinator of RULDAF and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Joseph Daudu (SAN), called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to make the safety and security of all Nigerians a matter of immediate priority.<\/p>\n<p>Tambuwal expressed concern that insecurity in Nigeria had worsened the living conditions of the people, threatening food insecurity, while social interaction had become difficult due to a reduction in movement due to the fear of criminals.<\/p>\n<p>To effectively fight insecurity, Tambuwal said, \u201cNigeria needs a leader that is versatile, one that has friends and associates across the length and breadth of this country and a leader with a broad world view and not a parochial and provincial politician.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need an incorruptible leader who understands that the best way to fight corruption is by personal examples and also by the building of strong institutions that can withstand shocks and manipulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria needs a leader in tune with the times, who is reasonably aware of the modern demands of technology in solving societal problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, Nigeria needs a bridge builder. A compassionate leader, sensitive to the needs and aspirations of the poor and needy; a leader whose words count and can be counted on, indeed, a leader with courage, an accountable leader who can be trusted to face the challenges of nationhood squarely without sentiments or pandering to interests that are inconsistent with national goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a leadership that galvanises, mobilises and directs Nigerians on the path to sustainable peace, progress and development, such a leader will not regard any part of the country as conquered people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While stating that finding such a leader was a task for all, the governor challenged Nigerians, \u201cto find and support such a leader in 2023 so that Nigeria can begin the long walk back to peace, security and prosperity for all her citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal has called on Nigerians to search and vote for politicians that are\u00a0versatile and friendly with all the geopolitical regions in Nigeria in the 2023 general elections.
