{"id":111119,"date":"2021-11-23T14:08:42","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T13:08:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=111119"},"modified":"2021-11-23T14:08:42","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T13:08:42","slug":"igboho-under-extradition-procedure-back-to-nigeria-dss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/23\/igboho-under-extradition-procedure-back-to-nigeria-dss\/","title":{"rendered":"Igboho under extradition procedure back to Nigeria \u2013 DSS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho is currently under extradition procedure back to Nigeria, according to a report by the Punch.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that Igboho after a raid on his Ibadan home by operatives of the Department of State Services had escaped to Cotonou in the Benin Republic.<\/p>\n<p>It was further reported that he was caught on July 19, 2021, in Cotonou, Benin Republic, by agents of the Brigade Criminelle.<\/p>\n<p>On Igboho&#8217;s behalf, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/22\/what-nigerian-govt-must-do-before-court-grants-extradition-of-sunday-igboho-falana\/\">his lawyer<\/a>, Chief Yomi Aliyu, SAN, filed a lawsuit against the DSS at the High Court of Ibadan. The court then ordered the DSS to pay N20 billion naira in exemplary damages to Igboho.<\/p>\n<p>However, the DSS stated in a series of court affidavits declared and signed on behalf of the DSS by one of its operatives, Johnson Oluwole, and presented before the High Court in Ibadan on Monday, November 22, 2021, that the Yoruba Nation leader was currently undergoing extradition procedure to return him to Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The affidavit titled \u201cApplicants affidavit in support of its motion on notice for stay of execution of judgement of this suit No\/M\/435\/2021 and an injunction pending the determination of the pending appeal\u201d partly reads, \u201cThat it is a fact that the applicant Chief Sunday Igboho has been declared a fugitive by the Nigerian Police Force sometimes in the month of June 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat it is a notorious fact that the applicant was arrested on the 19th of July 2021 and is currently in the custody of the Beninese security agents undergoing extradition procedure back to Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat it is fact that the applicant is under investigation by the security agents for treasonable act that is inimical to the cooperate existence of the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat it is a fact that it will be inequitable for this Honorable court to refuse this application for Stay against the background that the applicant is a fugitive undergoing extradition processing in Benin Republic.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho is currently under extradition procedure back to Nigeria, according to a report by the Punch.
