{"id":111617,"date":"2021-11-24T12:59:04","date_gmt":"2021-11-24T11:59:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=111617"},"modified":"2021-11-24T12:59:04","modified_gmt":"2021-11-24T11:59:04","slug":"oau-student-death-hilton-hotel-owner-enjoys-preferential-treatment-in-police-custody-nans-alleges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/24\/oau-student-death-hilton-hotel-owner-enjoys-preferential-treatment-in-police-custody-nans-alleges\/","title":{"rendered":"OAU student death: Hilton hotel owner enjoys preferential treatment in police custody &#8211; NANS alleges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has alleged that Dr. Rahman Adedoyin, the owner of Hiltons Hotels and Resorts, where a Masters\u2019 student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke, died in controversial circumstances is enjoying preferential treatment in the custody of the Osun State Police Command<\/p>\n<p>NANS said a recent audio recording released by Adedoyin while in police net showed that he is being accorded luxury by the police.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/20\/hilton-hotel-owner-adedoyin-speaks-from-detention-about-oau-students-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adedoyin in the audio recording, had denied involvement in the death of Adegoke<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It would be recalled that Adedoyin was arrested after the Masters\u2019 student died in controversial circumstances in his hotel and was buried in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/23\/adamawa-police-arrest-poly-student-for-allegedly-killing-and-burying-pregnant-girlfriend-in-shallow-grave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shallow grave<\/a> without the knowledge of his family or the police.<\/p>\n<p>The apex students\u2019 association in a statement on Tuesday titled, \u2018Timothy Adegoke murder: NANS calls for transparency and justice, irrespective of how highly placed are the perpetrators,\u2019 sounded \u201ca note of warning to everyone involved in the investigation that NANS will stop at nothing to expose and fight anyone irrespective of how highly placed contemplating to pervert the cause of investigation or justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement signed by NANS President, Sunday Asefon, read in part, \u201cWe equally frown upon the audio making the round where a principal suspect in the murder, the Chief Executive Officer of Hilton Hotel Dr. Rahman Adedoyin appears to be making a statement denying his involvement in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/23\/adedoyins-son-supervised-evacuation-burial-of-oau-student-flees-cp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">murder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe berate the luxury accorded Dr. Rahman Adedoyin to have access to his phone, make a video recording and share it while in the custody of the Nigerian Police Force. We believe this luxury is exclusive and couldn\u2019t have accorded of murder suspect of a lower social class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the enormity of material evidence against the suspect, staff, and management of Hilton Hotel, we advise that law enforcement agents must fight any temptation to accord the suspect preferential treatment or third-party influence which may pervert the cause of justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso, we demand an immediate multi-agency manhunt for Rahim Adegoke, the MD of the Hotel who is equally the son of the proprietor of the hotel fingered in the gruesome murder of Timothy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/17\/police-arrest-owner-of-hilton-hotel-adedoyin-over-alleged-killing-of-oau-student-in-osun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adegoke<\/a>. We believe government must invest the same energy invested in arresting secessionist agitators in arresting this fleeing murder suspect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the same vein, we call on security agencies to conduct forensic analysis and search around the hotel vicinity to ascertain whether or not more people have fallen victim to this heinous crime whose body might as well be dumped in a shallow grave near the hotel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asefon also said he has constituted a three-man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/18\/withheld-certificate-pioneer-nans-president-fights-yabatech-for-41-years-dies-after-victory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NANS<\/a> Committee to follow up with the investigation into the death of Adegoke and brief the secretariat on development in real-time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur prayers, condolences, and solidarity go to the family as they navigate this hard time.
