{"id":112269,"date":"2021-11-26T03:39:39","date_gmt":"2021-11-26T02:39:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=112269"},"modified":"2021-11-26T03:39:39","modified_gmt":"2021-11-26T02:39:39","slug":"chidinma-sold-atagas-laptop-to-me-for-n495000-businessman-tells-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/26\/chidinma-sold-atagas-laptop-to-me-for-n495000-businessman-tells-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Chidinma sold Ataga\u2019s laptop to me for N495,000 \u2013 Businessman tells court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A businessman, Mr Ifeoluwa Oluwo, told Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, how 21-year-old, Chidinma Ojukwu, sold the laptop of the murdered Chief Executive Officer of SUPER TV, Michael Ataga, to him for N495,000 two days after Ataga\u2019s body was found.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the 300-level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos had confessed to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/24\/i-withdrew-n380k-from-super-tv-ceos-account-after-stabbing-him-21-year-old-unilag-student\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stabbed Ataga to death while trying to defend herself<\/a> when the deceased reportedly became violent and wanted to have his way with her ata short let apartment on Adebowale Oshin Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Oluwo said he sells phones, laptops, and accessories at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, and has been in the business for five years.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that after seeing<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/18\/chidinma-called-to-ask-about-late-atagas-range-rover-security-man-tells-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Chidinma<\/a> on social media after the sale of the laptop, he immediately ensured that all her documents were kept handy.<\/p>\n<p>The witness identified Chidinma as a customer who had purchased a phone on April 30 and also sold a laptop on June 18, at the same office.<\/p>\n<p>Oluwo said, \u201cOn June 18, Chidinma sold me a MacBook Pro laptop for N495,000 after negotiations and market value comparison. In order to make a sale, you have to submit some documents and fill a form with your government identification card, driving license, international passport, voters\u2019 card, and National Identification Number.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou also have to fill a form which includes email, phone number, house address, and full name. It will also contain the full value of the item for that day, the name of the item, and the serial number of the item.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is what we do to contact a customer if there are any issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI asked Chidinma to unlock the laptop and she did. So, I conducted my internal observation which included speed performance, the circle count of the battery, and general functionality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter that, I proceeded to ask questions, \u2018Do you have a receipt for this laptop?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe stated that it was a gift from her boyfriend and that she had two laptops and needed to sell one to pay some bills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI conducted a check on a website for my market evaluation. I confirmed the value of the laptop. It was $1,000 to $1,200. The exchange rate of dollars at that time was N400 to N450 and she wanted to sell for N600,000. We were able to negotiate for N495,000, which I initiated from my UBA bank account to her Sterling bank account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oluwo stated that she was not able to provide the receipt as she had insisted that it was a gift from her boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the sale of the laptop, we saw her face on social media regarding a murder case. A few days later, the police from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, invited my manager, Olutayo Abayomi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I got to the police station, I discovered that it was in connection to the laptop we bought from Chidinma on June 18.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe both made a statement detailing how we came about the laptop and how we made the purchase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe gave the police the documents of the former owner, which included a copy of her voters\u2019 card, a copy of our form, and all receipts which already have her information regarding the laptop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no way we can detect that a phone or laptop was a stolen one,\u201d Oluwo said.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Yetunde Adesanya adjourned the case till November 29, for the continuation of trial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A businessman, Mr Ifeoluwa Oluwo, told Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, how 21-year-old, Chidinma Ojukwu, sold the laptop of the murdered Chief Executive Officer of SUPER TV, Michael Ataga, to him for N495,000 two days after Ataga\u2019s body was found.
