{"id":11625,"date":"2021-03-22T11:26:14","date_gmt":"2021-03-22T10:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=11625"},"modified":"2021-03-22T11:26:14","modified_gmt":"2021-03-22T10:26:14","slug":"presidency-should-be-zoned-and-rotated-gowon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/22\/presidency-should-be-zoned-and-rotated-gowon\/","title":{"rendered":"Presidency should be zoned and rotated &#8211; Gowon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, has called for zoning and rotational presidency among the six geo-political zones.<\/p>\n<p>General Gowon made the call in Abuja at 100th anniversary of Barewa Old Boys Association (BOBA).<\/p>\n<p>According to him, rotating the office is key to peace, tranquility and development.<\/p>\n<p>The elder statesman also called for governorship position in all states of the federation to be rotated among the three senatorial districts, saying that, such would help address the crisis of marginalisation.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cPresidency should be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/20\/we-have-not-made-any-decision-on-zoning-of-2023-presidential-ticket-says-pdp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">zoned<\/a> and rotated among the six geo-political zones of the country. This is key to peace, tranquility and development of our country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso, among the 19 northern states, the Nigerian presidential position should be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/08\/2023-presidency-no-zoning-in-apc-yahaya-bello\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rotated<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gen. Gowon said Boko Haram, banditry and kidnapping have threatened the peace and the tranquility needed for educational development in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInsecurity is giving the northern region a bad name and image and the need to make the North peaceful again cannot be overemphasized.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoko Haram, banditry, kidnapping have threatened the peace and tranquility needed for educational development in our land.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInsecurity in any nation threatens development, law and order.
