{"id":117766,"date":"2021-12-07T13:53:49","date_gmt":"2021-12-07T12:53:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=117766"},"modified":"2021-12-07T13:53:49","modified_gmt":"2021-12-07T12:53:49","slug":"just-in-buhari-sacks-aedc-management-over-workers-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/07\/just-in-buhari-sacks-aedc-management-over-workers-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"JUST IN: Buhari sacks AEDC management over workers\u2019 strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The sack of the management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari over the strike by the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).<\/p>\n<p>The strike action engaged by the NUEE left areas serviced by the AEDC without power for hours on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the areas serviced by the company are the federal capital territory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/06\/attack-on-uniabuja-staff-quarters-was-a-plan-to-gain-publicity-says-fct-minister\/\">(FCT)<\/a>, Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger states.<\/p>\n<p>The workers were protesting unpaid allowances, salaries and unremitted pension deductions.<\/p>\n<p>In other news, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that some\u00a0Abuja residents have accused the electricity service provider for the territory, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/03\/abuja-residents-groan-under-aedcs-prepaid-meters-fraud\/\">Abuja Electricity Distribution Company<\/a><\/strong>, AEDC, of deliberately exploiting them by giving meters with existing liabilities (debt) to new customers.<\/p>\n<p>According to a DAILY POST investigation, the recent rollout of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/25\/fg-considers-new-options-to-deliver-prepaid-meters\/\">mass metering<\/a>\u00a0by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has failed to provide the needed relief from estimated bills, and has rather compounded huge problems for customers, has revealed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The sack of the management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari over the strike by the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).
