{"id":118345,"date":"2021-12-08T16:23:07","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T15:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=118345"},"modified":"2021-12-08T16:23:07","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T15:23:07","slug":"nembe-oil-spill-weve-finally-put-out-the-wellhead-leak-aiteo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/08\/nembe-oil-spill-weve-finally-put-out-the-wellhead-leak-aiteo\/","title":{"rendered":"Nembe oil spill: We&#8217;ve finally put out the wellhead leak &#8211; Aiteo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Operator of oil mining lease (OML) 29, Aiteo has disclosed that it has finally put out the leak on its Santa Barbara wellhead in Nembe, Bayelsa state.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The wellhead is a joint venture between Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production Company (AEEPCO) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/23\/buhari-suspends-inauguration-of-nnpc-board\/\">(NNPC)<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A wellhead is a component at the surface of an oil or gas well that provides the structural and pressure-containing interface for the drilling and production equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Recall that it had blown on<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> November 5, spewing oil and gas into the<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0water bodies and causing environmental disaster \u2014 for many weeks after the initial leak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Last week, Andrew Onu, Aiteo\u2019s global group director\/coordinator, said the company had pumped chemicals into the wellhead to contain further leakage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He had said that the spill had already been contained substantially.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In a statement on Wednesday, Aiteo said it has finally put out the leak and successfully installed control packages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo the glory of God, we have put out the leak at SBAS-1. We are grateful for all the support. We have successfully installed control packages on both arms,\u201d Thisday quoted a statement from Aiteo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a rig up pump on the long string, and pump opens the ball valve. Also, we have closed both control packages and shut-in well flow. The team is currently preparing to pump \u2018kill fluid\u2019 into the long string. Note that the short string is already killed and dead with zero pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComplete pumping of kill fluid into the long string (LS). Achieve zero psi on surface and rig down pump as well as rig up wireline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will then nipple down Christmas Tree and carry out comprehensive service on wellhead and Christmas Tree as well as install it and secure well.
