{"id":119154,"date":"2021-12-10T08:10:06","date_gmt":"2021-12-10T07:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=119154"},"modified":"2021-12-10T08:11:55","modified_gmt":"2021-12-10T07:11:55","slug":"fg-only-pfizer-vaccine-to-be-administered-as-booster-shots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/10\/fg-only-pfizer-vaccine-to-be-administered-as-booster-shots\/","title":{"rendered":"FG: Only Pfizer vaccine to be administered as booster shots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has stated that it&#8217;s only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine that is eligible for us as booster shots.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the federal government on Friday had<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0approved booster shots for Nigerians that have completed two doses of AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer BioNTech or one dose of Johnson &amp; Johnson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/30\/nphcda-reveals-how-to-detect-workers-with-fake-covid-vaccination-cards\/\">(NPHCDA)<\/a> had said eligible Nigerians should visit health centres and mass vaccination sites from December 10 to get their booster dose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Speaking on Thursday at the flag-off of the mass vaccination of<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>refugees, migrants and internally displaced persons (IDPs), Faisal Shuaib, executive director of NPHCDA, said the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine has been approved as booster shots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFollowing the detection of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Nigeria, the federal government reviewed the country\u2019s vaccination programme and resolved to introduce the booster dose using the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine across the country,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Giving further clarification, Yanda Muhammad, NPHCDA spokesman, told TheCable that the Pfizer vaccine is the only vaccine recommenced by the federal government as a booster dose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He said those who have received complete doses of other brands of the COVID-19 vaccine can take the Pfizer vaccine as a booster shot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPfizer vaccine is the only vaccine recommended for booster vaccination regardless of previous brands of vaccines taken,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has stated that it&#8217;s only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine that is eligible for us as booster shots.
