{"id":119824,"date":"2021-12-11T19:04:26","date_gmt":"2021-12-11T18:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=119824"},"modified":"2021-12-11T19:04:26","modified_gmt":"2021-12-11T18:04:26","slug":"plateau-varsity-workers-to-embark-on-indefinite-strike-over-earned-allowances-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/11\/plateau-varsity-workers-to-embark-on-indefinite-strike-over-earned-allowances-others\/","title":{"rendered":"Plateau varsity workers to embark on indefinite strike over earned allowances, others"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Plateau State University chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), is set to embark on an indefinite strike over non-payment of earned allowance and other entitlements.<\/p>\n<p>The union also said that the strike would commence as soon as they receive approval from the national secretariat.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of SSANU in PLASU, Comrade Timnan Rimdap, said the decision to proceed on strike was taken by SSANU Congress following the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum given to management to act.<\/p>\n<p>Rimdap added that the resolution has since been conveyed to the National Secretariat of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/28\/strike-looms-in-varsities-as-ssanu-nasu-give-fg-ultimatum-over-earned-allowances\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SSANU<\/a> for further necessary action.<\/p>\n<p>He said that prior to the seven-day ultimatum, which expired on December 8, SSANU had in a letter dated July 2, 2021, issued a 21-day ultimatum which expired on July 23, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSSANU in another letter dated August 3, 2021, issued a four-week ultimatum which expired on September 3, 2021,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that due to the failure of the University administration to address the grievances raised in the aforementioned letters, SSANU Congress embarked on a three-day peaceful protest from November 29th to December 1, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSSANU Congress at its meeting on December 1, 2021, resolved to issue the University administration a 7-day ultimatum to address the issues,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the issues in contention include; mainstreaming of hazard allowance at the Governing Council approved rate of N30,000 as against the N15,000 being paid by the university administration.<\/p>\n<p>Other issues according to him were; payment of arrears of minimum wage from April 2019 to December 2020, payment of arrears of earned allowances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother issue is the payment of arrears of salaries and regularization of the salary payday and constitution of a board to manage the staff gratuity fund.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImplementation of Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Staff Salary (CONTISS) 15 salary grade in line with the CONTISS salary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImplementation of 30 working days as annual leave, as against calendar days, as is the practice in the Nigerian University system,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Plateau State University chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), is set to embark on an indefinite strike over non-payment of earned allowance and other entitlements.
